Hi Everyone,
Hows it going? After leaving the volcanic island we headed to Rotorua, another volcanic/ geothermal active place so again as soon as we got near the place we could smell it before we saw it, rotten eggs (or more closely Matts farts) sprang to mind. After only for some random reason the day before that we were talking about mazes, the first thing we saw was a maze so obviously we had to have a go at that. Great fun, felt like a kid again. On the theme of being big kids we went zorbing, have been looking forward to this ever since we heard about about it when we first arrived in NZ. It didnt disappoint it was great fun. You are put in a big inflatable ball, filled with water and rolled down a hill. We went in one together, it was such a laugh as soon as we got to the bottom we wanted to do it again.
After acting like big kids, the next day we went to Waiotapu, a big geothermal active area. It was great, there was a big geyser that goes off at the same time everyday it started off bubbling then gradually water beings to spurt out of it eventually reaching about 20 metres in the air. The rest of the site was walking around hot boiling mud, lakes of amazing colours due to all the gases in them, (one of them is the one on the front of the rough guide to NZ book) and basically just lots of steam and bad smells.
Off to Tongario tomorrow.
Take care
