Tasha's Travels
Before we arrived in Waitomo town ( which is basically 3 shops) we stopped of at the Angora Bunny Shearing shop. I have honestly never seen anything like it in my life! We went into this tiny shop in the sticks and this old woman got up on her microphone ( even though there were only about 10 of us there and it was the size of a shed) and this huge rabbit was brough out, and then they strapped its legs down in these stirrups stretching it out like on a rotisary ( spelling?) and then took sheep shears, spinning it round on this board to do all the sides! Apparantly they have to get shawn 4 times a year or they die of heat exhaustion from their coats. They starts shearing them when they are 3months old i think- and so most of the rabbits get so used to it that when they get put on the table they stretch out their legs to be stirruped! It was so bizarre, i think my photos show just how weird it all looked- so will get them up asap.
Waitomo is famous for its caves and glow worms, we took a tour of the caves ( unfortunately for us our group of 5 was swallowed up by 50 americans on our tour round who were double high fiving about guessing that a rock formation looked like bob marley- and at one point one of the girls started to sing a phantom of the opera song beacuse of the caves acoustics- the kiwi tour guide and us 5 didn't know where to look, it was hilarious and excruciating at the same time!) The cave was really pretty- looked like a baddy's hang out in James Bond. Then we went on a boat ride where the roof of the cave sparkeled from all the millions of glow worms that live there. It was so cold down there- and some our our friends were on teh black labrinth tour where they sit in rubber rings and wet suits following the river in the caves- so we were half expecting to see them woosh past us- but sadly not! hee hee
Next day Taupo!!
