Tasha's Travels
I really didn't think it was possible to get much colder, but heading to the last land mass before reaching the south pole is one way to find out!
The scenary was absolutely stunning, huge stretches of coastline with snow capped mountains in the back ground, and as you can see from the photo we were right up close to a lot of wildlife as well. The weather was painfully cold, there was such a strong wind which felt like ice hitting you in the face.
We went of a few walks to various waterfalls and stretches of coastline which were beautiful despite the terrential down pour we had all day. After lunch we visited the fossilized forest, where there are tree stumps and fallen trunks preserved by silica since prehistoric time, and we also got to see some penguins here as well. We spent the night in a hostal overlooking the ocean in Curio Bay where the population is just 11. We had a log fire for the most of the night as everyone was totally frozen, but it still wasn't toasty- i think we must be fairly wimpy from the UK as the guy that owns the hostal had been surfing all day- it was about 3degrees outside so the water must have felt like ice! Hardcore!
Tomorrow we head to Te anau!
