Sue was in town for business again which meant one thing, our annual road trip. Yippee. Cambridge was the destination and we set off on the short journey for a weekend in this intellectually stimulating and historic university town. The soul sistas were together once again and we couldn't wait to catch up and spend effortless moments in each other's company. The weather was glorious and sunny and cast a warm glow over the town which seemed to lift everyone's spirits. We spent Saturday driving around the area visiting Ely Cathedral and perusing through cute traditional markets. We also spent some time at Anglesey Abbey which is a Jacobean-style house with beautifully manicured gardens and a working watermill. It was so peaceful and pretty with photo opportunities a plenty. As a generation of budding photographers and obsessive selfie lovers we took full advantage of our lovely surroundings. Our weekend away was definitely more subdued than previous
occasions, so after indulging in a delicious and filling Indian curry we made our way back to our apartment to put our feet up and relax in front of the telly. We were all showing our age, but it's not always about the partying and loud music. Sometimes it feels nice to chill out and enjoy the quiet times. The next morning after a hearty breakfast we explored the sights that Cambridge had to offer. It is the town where: the atom was first split, where the structure of DNA was discovered, where Charles Darwin developed the theory of evolution, where Newton developed his theory of gravity and where Stephen Hawking used to live and work. It is incredible to try and fathom the extent of some of the great minds that have congregated within these famous university halls. It is a very inspiring environment to be in but also quite intimidating. Unfortunately we did not have enough time for a punt on the River Cam so instead we had a farewell lunch in one the many pubs before heading back to London.
