After a brilliant New Year's Eve party at Emma's house we hopped on a plane and four hours later we arrived in sunny Tenerife for a week of sun and relaxation. Our mission was to escape the wintry January blues in London and totally forget about the dreaded rat race. We passed our task with flying colours and found it incredibly easy to become ladies of leisure. The warmth of the sun was an instant mood enhancer and the inclusion of a few cheeky glasses of Sauvignon Blanc was a welcome addition to our afternoon routine. In between tanning and being plugged in to the world of music, we braved the icy water of the pool for a few invigorating laps. Completely refreshed and exhausted from our workout we collapsed onto the sun loungers until the early evening chill in the air told us it was time to catch the beautiful sunset and get ready for dinner. A pattern emerged to our holiday, whereby the days were spent greedily soaking up the sun and the evenings were spent hungrily feasting on the delights at the dinner buffet. This was followed by long strolls along the winding promenade and the usual perfectly refreshing nightcap of Campari and soda in giant wine glasses. It was absolute bliss and we thoroughly enjoyed the slow pace of our beach holiday. It was a welcome change to our hectic city lifestyle and one we were keen to revisit in the future. It was a time for reflection and a much needed opportunity to re-charge the old batteries. Never ones for lazing around doing nothing, we could finally see the draw of total relaxation, where your decisions are based on turning around every so often to ensure even tanning and catching the 40 winks that seem so elusive in London. We loved every single minute and completely understood why so many people flocked to the Canary Islands.
