Tamara's Travels
Hello again!
This postcard comes to you from a little further around the world - Auckland!
First of all, I'll update my last few days in Australia, as they were pretty special to say the least!
We went on a trip (Uncle Brians!) into the Tablelands south of Cairns. We walked through more stunning rainforest, and visited some fantastic waterfalls. There were times in the day when I stopped and looked around me and smiled, thinking 'I cant believe I'm here doing this', it just seemed too perfect! We jumped off big drops into a (freezing cold!) freshwater lake, slid down natural rock slides between waterfall layers - this was at a 3 tiered waterfall, which was separated by little pools in between. This little paradise was nestled in the rainforest and was such fun - swimming in the currents and slip-sliding all over the place! Perhaps most spectacular of all were the MillaMilla falls (aboriginal for lots of water). This is the place where the Timotei advert was filmed, so we had fun re-enacting that! The falls are really, really high - really big, so swimming under them was a little painful but fab! And then we could sit on the rocks behind them and look up!
Also on that trip we passed more and more sugar cane, banana and pawpaw plantations.
The day before I left Cairns I did a little flight over the Great Barrier Reef - it was in a tiny 4 seater (including the captain) retro style plane. We got a stunning view of the reef, and some little islands and sandbanks, as well as the rainforest behind Cairns. This was STUNNING - I think made even more special by the fact I had dived the reef, and therefore knew what beauty lay within all the different coral islands!
So, then it was time to leave the lovely Australia. Certainly I have not seen it all..... far from it! But what I did see I loved! The trams of Melbourne, the Opera House, the surfing, the sailing, the diving (perhaps my highlight) and snorkelling, the sun bathing, the aboriginal art, culture and legends, the red soil, the white sands, the blue waters, the yellow dry fields, the lush rainforests, the snakes, the spiders, the crocs, the sharks, the fish, the turtles, the birds, the kangaroos, the koalas, the cows, the horses, the bbq's, the sun, the people, the nights out, and the nights in, the EVERYTHING!
Anyway, leaving all that behind was pretty sad! But flying in over New Zealand was AMAZING and am now already in love with this country! We are off to a rugby match tomorrow evening. And many many exciting and beatiful things await us after that....
Will keep you posted!
Love from a very excited (so excited that I'm writing this at 2.20am as i cant sleep!) Tamara xx
