Before I tell you all about the past few days, you should know that if you haven't tried to check out my Cairns pictures, don't bother. Something is wrong with the photo album, but I've e-mailed sta and they should be getting it all fixed :)
Tuesday was the last day of our archeology course, so we had the day off yesterday!! We had big plans to go into the city. We took the shuttle into Melbourne and headed straight to the Museum to get tickets to the Exhibition Center. This is a different building than the actual Museum, and focuses more on art. We tried to book a tour for the Center, but it was all full for the day. Don't worry, we are going to make sure we get to the Exhibition Center!
So, we went right ahead with the rest of our plans for the day. Our next stop was the Immigration Museum. A magazine on our flight to Cairns named it the best museum in the city, so we had to go see for ourselves. I'm not sure if it was the best, but we had an amazing time. They had exhibits on the history of immigration in Australia, what life was sailing to the country, and a special exhibit on the relationship between Austrlia and Japan. I also stopped by the Immigrant Garden which was really pretty.
Next, we went to Parliament. I was so excited to go see the building. It was beautiful. We got to go inside the Assembly Chamber, the Council Chamber and the Library. In the Chambers we sat right in to seats the members of parliament use. The entire building was just breath-taking.
This weekend is Queen's Birthday Weekend, so we are celebrating tomorrow. We are going to have a kangaroo bbq at the hotel, complete with jello shots in honor of the Queen. On Saturday we are off to the Great Ocean Road, we've got are car all ready. Everybody cross your fingers, and whish that we do okay driving on the left side of the road. Then, from Monday - Wednesday we are going on our history class field trip. Next Thursday we have the day off, and although we should spend it writing papers, I think we are going to head into the city again :) Clearly this is going to be a busy, fun-filled week.
