First of all, you should know that I spent an hour this morning trying to upload my pictures and a video onto the blog. The computers on campus won't let me, and the internet at the apartment isn't fast enough. If you have facebook, you can try to check out my pictures there, but I have only posted a handful of them. The day I get to Melbourne I will post all of them, so you have something great to look forward to :)
I got back last night from an amazing four day firled trip with school. On Sunday we left and drove down South (it is amazing that you can get more South of Hobart, but you can) where we stayed in Koonya. On the way down we stopped at Eaglehawk Neck. We went to a lookout there, and then went down to the beach and took a walk right onto the ocean. There was an entire ecosystem living on the rocks by the beach where we saw starfish and these sea gross looking things. We stayed in Eaglehawk Neck and went to see the Dog Line after. It is where dog's were lined up along the beach when the area was a prison to prevent convicts from fleeing (not that there was anywhere to go for miles and miles if you ever got to the ocean). There was a small museum by the walk all about the history of the area. Our next stop was an arch. It was an amazing rock formation in the ocean that we got to visit. There was also a place called the Devil's Kitchen with the arch. At one point a rock had formed a bridge where Devil's Kitchen is, but it fell down. After that we headed to Roaring Wave Beach. We made it just in time to get out after a little rain and see some beautiful rainbows! There were also some rocks ripe for climbing on. They went right into the water. After that we headed into Koonya to our "hostel." We were so suprised to arrive at an empty house. It turns out that the school bought a house out in Koonya and we got to spend the night there. Lucky for the people I roomed with, we were living in the morgue, which was obviously haunted. Thankfully we all made it out alive.
Day two took us to Port Arthur. If you don't know, that is where the convicts actually lived on the Island. We saw their prison cells, where they worked, the church, and the home of the boss. It was a lot of fun. We also got to take a small ferry ride where we saw a small island where they burried those who passed away while at Port Aruther, and the land where any boys were held prisoner. The tour was amazing, but it was super cold out. After that we headed to Remarkable Cave. The only word to describe it was remarkable. It was really pretty, but we weren't allowed to actually go walk through the cave. It was really a rock formation that led to the beach, not a cavern (which is what we were expecting it to be). While we were stopped we took a short hike to a nearby blowhole. It was so scary, but so awesome. For fear of falling over we didn't stay too long. We headed back after for one more night at our exciting hostel in Koonya.
Day three took us back up the east coast. It was nice, because the further North we went the warmer it got. We made a stop at a forest and did a really short rainforest walk. After that we went to Freicinet National Park. We did a small walk around there from on top of a mountain, and then went to our new hostel. This one was right on the beach which was nice. We all spent the night living and hanging out in our one small building which was really nice.
The last day was the highlight of the trip. We went back to Freicient, but this time took a real hike. We hike through 2 mountains to get to Wine Glass Bay. It is rated one of the top 10 Beaches in the world, and I totally understand why. It was secluded (not many people want to take a hike to get to the beach) and the cleanest beach I had ever seen. The water was really clear, and there were all these amazing birds flying around. We hiked back and went to a lookout on the way, where we got to see the beach from a different view. After that we took a nice long bus ride home.
After a good nights sleep, today we had plans of going on a waterways tour in Hobat. However, it was raining and so the tour was canceled. Ugh. But, to makeup for it we went out for some really go Indian food for dinner, and now we will spend the night relazing and watching movies. Tomorrow I am off to Cascade for a Brewery tour, and the most exciting thing about Hobat is coming up. We booked a tour of Cadburry for Monday. Mmmm, I can't wait!
