So yesterday, Mary Beth, Gabby, Diana and I rented a car and took a road trip to the Great Ocean Road. Driving in Australia was half the fun! Although it took some getting used to, and it was raining on and off all day, we were excellent Aussie drivers! But what else would you expect?
It took us two hours to get to the beginning of the Great Ocean Road. Once we got there we stopped right away to check out the first lookout we could. After that, we drove until about 5:00 before we turned around and headed back home. Along the way we stopped at the Aireys Inlet, Split Point Lighthouse, Cape Patton, Castle Cove, the 12 Apostles, and Loch Ard Gorge. The highlight, and main reason we went on the Great Ocean Road, were the 12 Apostles. They are rated one of the top 5 best views in Australia. For good reason. They were sooo stunning. There are only about 8 of the rock formations left, but they were just amazing. Most of the drive was along the coast (hence the name) but we also went through national parks and rainforests which were really pretty. So the entire day was just filled with beauty.
Today, we went to the Science Museum which is in one of Melbourne's suburbs. It was so much fun. There were space, sports, house and battery exhibits. My favorite was the one of the house. In each exhibit there were lots of experiments to get involved in which was great. After, we headed to another suburb to the beach. We sort of watched the sun set on the beach. And by sort of I mean we were on the beach while the sun was setting, but we we not facing the west so we didn't physically see the sun as it set. Haha. It was still really nice. The water was perfectly blue, and there were all of these fun shacks lined up on the sand. Each was painted differently, and they were all really colorful.
Tonight I'll be going to bed early because we are getting up nice and early for our history class field trip. We get back on Wednesday and have plans to go into the city on Thursday because we have the day off from class. Yay for one day weeks! On Thursday we are going to try to go to the Exhibition Center that we missed this Wednesday and the Victoria Markets again. Whew. It's going to be a fun week.
Also, my Cairns photo album should be fixed. Since I spent like an hour this morning correcing the whole thing, if it isn't just forget about seeing any of those pictures until I get home. Also, I added pictures from the Great Ocean Road, and when I get back from my trip I will be putting up everything from the trip plus some videos I didn't have time to post this morning. So, keep your eyes out during the end of the week for exciting updates!
