Before arriving in Queenie, we stopped at the Karawau Bridge Bungy site, the first commercial bungy site in the world. I was going to do the Nevis (three times as big) so just watched a few of our group hurl themselves towards the river below, some even dipping into it!! After they were all done we headed into town for a group photo by Lake Wakatipu, which Queenstown sits next to. After checking in at Nomads I had to rush out to go do the bungy!
The 40minute drive took us out to the site, where a pod is suspended by cables across a huge valley with a river rushing below. After getting harnessed up, we jumped on the little shuttle that takes you out to the pod- that was scary enough! Then it was to the actual jumping. Was pooping myself, as the video shows... but did it! It was the most incredible feeling hurtling towards the ground and I absolutely loved it!! Was buzzing for hours afterwards! That night our bus met for pizza and drinks... too much pizza, too many drinks!!
Next day was pretty uneventful... I went for a walk around town and up to the Queenstown Gardens where you can play frisbee-golf... I didn't!! Then we went to a rugby pitch in town for a game of touch. That evening we just sat in the hostel and watched some TV on Nine Iron's computer!
On the Friday, we were moving hostels, and anticipating the arrival of the crew we'd been on the bus in the North Island with! So, after moving to Base, they all turned up- cue mass excitement and childish screaming! Later, we went and played touch again but with our newly arrived lot. That evening we gathered in our room and (being a rugby group) sang rugby songs until the staff asked us to get out and go down to the bar!!
Didn't do a huge amount the next day, but the previous evenings antics were repeated- though this time with the threat of being evicted from the hostel- oops! We talked them round though and enjoyed another (though for me far less heavy) night out!
On the Sunday me and Nine Iron were due on the Milford Explorer trip to go to Milford Sound. Arrived at the bus to be told we were booked on two days previous but hadn't shown up! Bull-shizzle! Our tickets had the correct date but someone had made an error somewhere. We stayed on as someone hadn't turned up but when they did appear at the next stop we had to get off... and trapse across town back to our hostel! Not happy, but we rang Kiwi Experience to get a refund sorted. A pretty chilled out day eventually went the same way as the previous ones- but with Bret, Ratters and Nine Iron leaving the following day, the night out was to be our last as a group. More singing (this time in another room) followed, as did more wine!!
