We arrived at the Scudds' farm that evening, and went down to the fire they had gotten going in the back yard. Sat there with Ben, Bec, Ben's folks and a friend of the family, sinking a few beers and chatting mainly about sport (I love Australia!) by firelight. Scuddsy took me for a drive around some of the land of the farm (they farm Australian flowers) before we went indoors for dinner- meatloaf with gravy and veg.... was absolutley delicious!!! Then, tired as I was, I went to bed... a double bed... all to myself... it'd been too long!!!!
I made the most of the situation to sleep in next day, but eventually got up. Bec was off work so we spent the day mainly watching TV, including a film I had promised her was good- Innerspace.... my review was based on the last time I musy have seen it... some 10/15 years ago!! I apologised at the end!! When Ben and David came home, I went with them in the Ute to deliver the flowers cut that day to the business which distributes them up the road and they showed me the bulls which their neighbours sell, some of which for up $30,000 a pop!!! Afterwards, me and Scuddsy got ready for footie training... that's Aussie Rules footie training!! Scuddsy had insisted I come along and I figured I'd show them how an English rugby player did things!!! Had a great time... managed to master the kicking and handball (like punching the ball to a teammate) which I think impressed his teammates (a really good bunch of lads!). Lack of rugby training (and 2 months of beer!) made it tough going, but I lasted- despite two huge blisters on my heels from Scuddsy's old boots!! A great laugh though! We headed home for another gorgeous meal- this time roast lamb and veg.... awesome!!!
Wednesday I just spent chilling, watching footie on the TV and starting to understand it a bit more. That evening we went into Millicent for dinner and beers with some of the boys from the footie club. A mixed grill and a few Bulmers later we headed home.
Next morning me and Scuddsy watched Gladiator (amazingly I'd never actually watched it the way through before now) before heading of to Mt. Gambier so I could get my bus and then train to Melbourne. 6 hours later I checked into the same hostel I had stopped at previously- but was paying considerably less for the privilage!!! A great few days out in the country... and an education in Aussie Rules to take back to Victoria, the home of footie in Australia!
