Rotorua - the city surrounded by geothermal steam, volcanic moutains and hugh crater lakes, oh and not forgetting the awful smell of rotten eggs (sulphur). We arrived early evening so not much time to explore so instead we made use of the Hot tubs which each appartment had, ive gone up in the world its great!! So with a glass of wine and great company we kicked back and chilled out!! The next day was an early start for me as i headed off to Waitomo to explore some caves!!! "Haggis Honking Holes" was the name of the tour and it involved me abseiling down in to the cave, crawling through them on my belly and then rock climbing back out!! It was wicked fun and got very wet!! After returning to ground level i had 2 hours to kill before the bus back so i grabbed some lunch and played football with 2 Irish guys that i meet at the caves. Can you imagine me running around kicking a ball? well i did and i was very good even if i do say so myself! Well i managed to kick the ball so thats got to be a start!! After the 2 hour drive back to Rototua it was a quick turn around for dinner then we all went Tenpin Bowling - what fun!! I was glad to get to bed that night and concerned a wouldn't be able to move the next day!! Before i knew it the alarm was going off and it was time to get up :( Feeling rather stiff and sore i made my way to breakfast! As a group we then head to Whakarewarewa - A living Thermal Village. Here we learnt about Maori traditions and how they make use of all the steam coming out the ground!! It was really interesting and after a tour around the village we got to watch a Maori Cultural Performance which was really good especially seeing the men perform the 'Haka' it did make me chuckle! After enjoying a delicious traditional meal cooked in a box in the ground and heated by the natural steam we headed of for our next destination Taupo.
