After arriving late we had dinner then chilled out and watched a film. An ealy night for most of us as all very excited about the next day as most of us had choose the option of skydiving!! However the morning arrived and the weather was not on our side and it was cancelled :( So a quiet morning as raining and not much else to do but the afternoon was much more fun as i had booked to go horse riding :) It was great fun the scenery was amazing as we crossed a river and climbed up into the mountains. We stopped on top for a coffee break before heading back down. Got to do some cantering which was wicked my horse was called Harry and he was quiet lively which was ace!!
The next day we were heading for Christchurch - another long drive!! Though we stopped at Kiakoura where we were suppose to go swimming with Seals!! Though again the weather was not on our side and it was cancelled. However those who had choosen to go swimming with dolphins were in luck as the trip was still raining but only for strong swimmers and those unlikely to suffer with sea sickness!! I had not choose this option as have done several trips which dolphins but each time were not allowed to swim with them due to young ones so i thought id try something else but lucky for me some people dropped out and so i took their place. WOW so glad i did as we got to swim with them :) how exciting!! They were dusky dolphins which have a different social structure to bottle nosed dolphins which means you get get in the water even if baby ones around and they also live in bigger pods. The crew on the boat reckon there were 400 of them - no gidding. When i was in the water which was rough and quiet scary due to the big swell - i put my head under and there must of been about 100 dolphins all around me it was amazing we all swam along together and i caught one's eye and twisted in circles and it copied me till i was too dizzy to spin anymore!! How cool is that!! We got to get in 4 times to swim with them before heading back to shore. Once on the boat we watched the dolphins play and jump out of the water for a while. When the bus picked us up (only 4 of us had done it) everyone was waiting to hear if we done it and then were so gutted they missed out!!! The rest of the afternoon was on the bus arriving in Christchurch early evening. No dinner was included this night so me and the girls id been sharing a room with (Avril, Nat and Pauline) headed out to grab some dinner. The next morning we welcomed some new people who joined the tour as we headed towards Fox Glacier. The drive was stunning as we crossed the Canterbury Plains and up into the Southern Alps. We stopped for a break at Arthurs Pass then carried on taking in the views of the Otira Gorge. We stopped at Hokitika for lunch and had a wonder around the Jade factory and watched the carvers creating works of art from the greenstone known as Jade. We reach Fox Glacier late afternoon and the weather is not good so unable to go and see Lake Matheson for a walk as planned. We all keep our fingers crossed for nice weather the next day so we can climb on the Glacier!!
