I've arrived in Australia! Watched three films back to back on the flight over from Singapore and then got to the hostel at 10pm. I stayed at a hostel that's really central and it was completely different to the hostel in Singapore - lots of groups of 18 year olds and not that many older people like me. When I went up to my room one dorm had their door open and there was a group of VERY made up girls who I ended up seeing in the bar next door later and they were in proper clubbing gear...I suddenly felt very under-dressed. I ended up sitting with a couple of girls, one of which was English who has been in Australia for a year working and who had met the girl from New Zealand whilst working in Melbourne. The English girl has got a job at Sydney Opera house so unfortunately it meant that I couldn't hang out with her in the day but we exchanged numbers to try and meet up after she's finished work one day. We left the bar about midnight and then ended up chatting in my dorm as I was the only one staying in it! It was a Sanctuary room, but she said it didn't look any different to the normal dorm that she was staying in. On the one hand it was nice to have the room to myself without any snoring, alarms or fidgeting to distract but then it meant that I unfortunately didn't have anyone to befriend!
