I decided to do some walking around the sights of Sydney today. After being used to the heat of Singapore I ambitiously put my shorts and vest top on and went to the shop to get breakfast and got a bit of a shock as 8am in Sydney is quite chilly! Had to rethink my wardrobe! I walked through Hyde Park and then entered the Botanical Gardens, which are beautiful. You can see the Opera House and Sydney Harbour bridge whilst you are walking around, which are amazing. There's a really good viewing point called Macquaries Point so I got some really good pictures. Sydney Opera House does not disappoint! I went in the art museum to look at aboriginal art, which was really interesting and then headed to Circular Quay which is where the opera house is to grab some lunch and look at the views. There was a crazy aboriginal man on the quays enticing seagulls which then landed all over him whilst he fed them - very scary! After lunch I got one of the ferrys across to Manly. It's a half an hour journey which offers amazing views of the harbour. The weather was really nice now (probably very early twenties).
When I arrived at Manly I grabbed a map from Tourist Information as I'd read that there was a really nice scenic walk that you could do around the coastline. Unfortunately I hadn't read enough as the walk is 4 hours one way and I only had 3.5 hours until I was meeting my friend Jen so I set off anyway to see how far I could get. Flip flops probably weren't the best footwear of choice though! The walk was really picturesque - there are sandy coves, forest areas and amazing houses! The beaches are beautiful too.
I got the ferry back to the city centre again and then walked back to the hostel to meet Jen. We took my bags and walked to Darling Harbour which has really nice bars and restaurants and had a couple of ciders. It's so nice to be able to sit out in the sun (not to rub it in!). Jen's boyfriend who is from Holland came and met us and then we headed back to Jen's apartment. It is in a place called Pyrmont which is opposite Darling Harbour and it is overlooking the sea. We headed out for dinner with her housemates and a couple of their friends who are really nice.
