Day 8
Glasgow
I got the photo thing working so I'll try to upload some more photos tonight.
Today we went exploring up through the Scottish countryside to Stirling Castle and then to Doune Castle before heading down to Glasgow. Stirling castle was amazing. The views were extensive and you could see up to the highlands and across to the Wallace Monument. Mary Queen of scots lived in the castle before she was shipped off to France. The castle has a long history dating back well into the medieval Period. The structure has been restored and there are people dressed up in period costumes telling the stories through the castle. We then moved on to Doune castle which was the castle they used in the Monty Python movie. There was a minstrel in that castle so that was interesting as well.
We're a bit castled out now but have enjoyed learning about the history of this ancient land.
Glasgow was back to suburbia. There are people everywhere. There are huge shopping centres and big malls.
We bought Maddy a kilt and it looks great. We found a cheap little shop out of the way where the man spoke with such a broad Scottish accent that Maddy couldn't understand him.
Ate Chinese for tea tonight at a buffet restaurant where we were seated next to an Indian man and a Chinese man. This really is another cosmopolitan city. Haven't discovered much more about our scottish heritage but we are enjoying the scottish life.
Off to Wales tomorrow.
