My first week has come and gone and I'm now writing this post from my tour bus accompanied by 13 other travelers plus my tour guide (I forget his name :P). Some 4 hours till we arrive in Flores wihich is an island city from what I understand with deep blue waters. :)) Should be nice.
My last night in Antigua was partially spent with the new group and my roomate Denise.
Denise is 22 and from Holland. She is the sweetest person I've met so far. A real sympathetic person who has traveled all of her adult life as well as some notable travels when she was younger. Such as volunteering in Africa with her parents. Her dream, she says, is to continue traveling and seeing the world for as long as she can. Hopefully we will keep in touch. I will always remember her kind heart and our conversations about love and life.
Yesterday was an awfully emotional day. My good friend here (Toni) left early in the morning to head towards some kind of adventure, so she has now moved on and will probably be back in L.A. soon. She should be adding me to facebook any day now :P
Of course, then there's the family I stayed with and my teachers and school who have all left a me with a deeper appreciation for the people Antigua.
For example, Sandra my early morning teacher (8am-10am) was beautiful and had a smile and a laugh that was absolutely contagious!! A girl jaded by love and who put everyone else's needs before her own. I will always remember our long 'spaglish' conversations lol. She was an inspiration and truly made learning fun!
My late morning teacher (10am-12am) Evelyn was tuff!! lol.. No no, she was awesome!! It's just that i remember after my first lesson with her feeling absolutely defeated. She had the difficult job of trying to teach an adult A.D.D. student Spanish in the 3rd and 4th hour of class. NOT an easy task. I never did tell her about my 'disability', only because I don't need or want anybody to take it easy on me. I only mention it now because I want to make it clear that Evelyn didn't have an easy job! She's an excellent teacher with a lot patience. I'm glad she believed in me and kept pushing me.
Because of all these wondeful people... I am now fighting tears writing this blog. Not so successfully I might add. lol So once again thank you and if any of you read this post.. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I'll be back to visit. I promise!
Ok. so now I'm heading to Flores with strangers. Moving towards the unknown and i'd be lying if said I wasn't scared. They all seem nice enough. the problem is that they all started trip in Cancun Mexico. Apparently, I was the only one in the tour to start in Antigua so now I'm the new guy trying to fit in.
I have no idea how this will turn out. Send me good vibes guys and come visit blog to see how it goes!
