Day1
Welcome to Guatemala! Greeted by a subway and mcdonalds in the airport!!! Ahhhhhhh so this is traveling!?
For starters, i had to take 3 flights to get here... Ottawa, Toronto, El-Salvador, Guatemala and I have to say. They were all very pleasant! The flights were smooth and full of "ouuuus" and "ahhhhhhs". The ocean south of the Florida keys are visibly polluted with oil! I saw it with my own eyes!!! That was part of why I wanted to take this voyage. I wanted to see the damage done to our planet, if any... and although I took some pictures, they didn't come through nicely. The ocean are gray with sludge. I'm no marine biologist, but I guess it could have been something else. I look forward to further opportunities to investigates this closer as the days go by.
Till then, I'm enjoying a nice beer at the hotel! 'Gallo' beer. humph.. it's not Coors Light but it'll do :)))) And I plan on taking a walk around to see what's out there!
UPDATE: ok i'm writing this as i go along.... omg!! I just totally went for a random walk in Guatemala city and meet some locals! They told me the MOST interesting story about the 'Guatemala sink hole' (google it)! Apparently the rumor here is that someone heard a women scream "I don't want to go to Hell!" then a terrified scream followed by an evil laugh right before the hole appeared!! anybody who knows me, knows I loved this story!! Definitely freaky! And I'm certain the guy who told me was telling the truth... ;)
They were really nice and I've got say... Guatemalans are truly loving and generous! so far this trip has been amazing!
