Claire & Steve's Excellent Adventure
Well, we survived India and the 45 hour train journey from Kerala back to Delhi. Our train carriage was infested with cockroaches who generally decided to come out when you were trying to go to sleep - needless to say Claire did not sleep and spent the night armed with a torch and a swatter! It was strange being back in Delhi after the relative calm and picturesque scenery of Kerala; Delhi international airport was another story - I never realised checking in could be so demanding!
So, we arrived in Kathmandu and instantly felt the cold....no more shorts and t-shirts for the next fortnight. We stayed in Thamel which was a cool place - it sells loads of trekking gear with big name labels (fakes of course - but you would never tell), so we invested in a few things for our trip. We had a walk around the main centre of Kathmandu - very busy with people selling all sorts of things on the side of the street. Like India there was the obligatory cow but at least the traffic seemed ever so slightly to follow some rules of the road!
We met our trekking guide, Bishwa, for dinner and he introduced us to the yummy Tibetan dish of Momos (dough stuffed with veg or meat with a spicy dipping sauce). We set off on our trek on the 13th for 12 days.
