Ok so how many months have I been slacking off!! About 4 I think, so let's get updating you lot then!!!
We've been staying in Christchurch which is where we unknowingly settled, the people at the hostel are nice we've made some great friends that weren't all b*****ing off in a few weeks.
The majority of the time we've not done a lot really apart from looking for work which has been really hard. I managed to get a few temp jobs one was packing yummy cakes the other was doing general admin stuff, but there really wasn't a lot around for me. All full time jobs were coming back as no's mostly because I wasn't a New Zealand citizen, being in a recession they need to look after their own, I can understand that.
Steve and Rog had more luck with work picking and packing, not the most exciting things to be doing but it's brings in about $12.50 ph (minimum wage) woo hoo!!. They both at some point or other got some form of sparky work seen as they had their provisional licences, well done boys!!
Then it all turned sour. After doing a bit of research into how they become fully registered this is what we found. They will need to have 4 weeks off work in the year (all holiday taken), need all their tools (highly expensive), re-sit the health and safety course and somehow find somewhere in the region of $3500 for the actual course as they're overseas students. If you add all that up it amounts to a hell of a lot of money, that we have, but after that really will be majorly skint. So it's all been knocked on the head for them unless they can get sponsored and the company will put them through it.
I found work back in September for NZ Manufacturers and exporters association organising all the associations' forums, workshops etc.Event organisation is something that I've been doing at home for a number of years so I was chuffed to have the opportunity to do that here too. It's been going really well and I really enjoy it but if Steve and I can't settle then it's not right for us especially as we're still living in the hostel, it's actually really doing my head in now.
I've handed in my notice and will leave just before Christmas. Steve and I will spend Christmas and New Years with our mates then we're going to b***** off and get back to travelling and see the south island, which I can't wait to do!!! Then we're off to Ozzy again to have some summer time there and who knows what will happen...
Roger has seen most of New Zealand already so he's given us the info on where to go. It's just been the long weekend here so we all bundled off to the races and went to Hed Kandi, it was a great weekend but a highly messy occasion too!!
The weather seems to be really dodgy here, winter was more consistent at least you knew it was going to be cold! Right now it rains, then it hails, then the sun comes blasting out, then it blows a gail. But when the sun does stay out it's beautiful, there's no clouds and nice warm breeze. But the weather is P**sing me off now too. I think I've had enough of being stuck in one place, need to get moving again! I am actually really looking forward to going back to oz.
