Steve goes travelling
The Open
As I wont be getting to Wimbledon this year I thought id make sure I got to at least one grand slam and so decided to go to the Oz open in Melbourne. Tom my house mate also fancied it so on the Sunday we went in to town to book the overnight train from Sydney to Melbourne. We were pretty early so had to wait round 3 hours as we didn’t actually know the times of the trains and then it was an 11hour (13 hours after track works, signal problems and probably kangaroos instead of leaves, on the line!) We got to Melb around 10am and then got a tram to the grounds. There was no real que and so we got ground tickets and then just took a look around. There weren’t as many freebies as im used to, but there was a Garnier goodie bag worth $60, the only downside was a 2-3hr que = sod that!
We managed to get on every court except the Rod Laver but did get on the Vodafone arena to see Haas for the end of his match and then some womens doubles. We got severely burnt as the weather forecast said it was supposed to be cloudy = blue sky and full strength sun. The weather forecasting out here is crap! Also managed to see the lege Pat Cash walking past! The Open is a lot different to Wimbledon, not just cos its not grass but the amount of courts you can go on is wicked, even their 3rd court is about 3-4 times the size of court no.2 at Wimbledon - it does however lack a hill altho it still has a big screen etc.
The day was well worth it and then at 8pm we were back on the mighty train for this time a mere 11 hours.
