Palm Beach
Darrah the Irish guy was big into Home and Away so we decided to hop in Shayne’s car and drive over there to try and spot Alf and the crew on Palm Beach...After picking up another couple of Irish I was the only English man in a car full of four Irish whom I had difficulty understanding at the best of times on my own...but once they got together - Jesus I just nodded and smiled!! The journey over was pretty funny with Darrah 'directing' the way and Shayne following his instructions...it was like a comedy act in the front - fastest Irish accents and lots of cursing! Reminded me a bit of Podge and Rodge (its an Irish comedy thing from the makers of Zig and Zag - try and get a hold of it on download or something, pretty funny). The girl with us who had been to Palm Beach already told us she knew where she was going....so we stopped at 'palm beach' got out and began to walk....but it wasn’t palm beach but some other sand filled area. When we got to the actual palm beach it was still pretty much nothing...we walked the whole beach - saw no home and away signs or anything....UNTIL...we got to the surf club and there it was....a single sign with Alf as the club official (see the pics). After the neighbours set and the amount of merchandise and crap you can get for that this was a bit crap - they’ve lost out on a big trick here, chuck up a surf diner and bang they’d get loadsa custom - even me, even tho I don’t watch it!
On the way back there was a sign for cricketers wanted, so Darrah phoned up in his most Irish accent and started going on about how the Irish invented cricket and how crap the Poms were etc. bloody funny but again one of those 'had to have been there moments' I suppose!! Needless to say they didn’t want any more players anymore...
