We decided to do the scenic drive which took in a couple of beaches and the pink lake. The beaches in Esperance are absolutely stunning. Bright white sand and crystal clear water, I think they are by far the best beaches in Australia. There are plenty as well, so there is no shortage of beaches.
We got to a beach and spotted about 14 dolphins, we watched them all catch waves amongst the surfers and then the dolphins started to show off by leaping out of the water. It was fantastic and the surfers were pretty excited as well.
Next was Pink Lake this was a large inland lake and not pink, so a bit of a let down.
The following day we went and spent a couple of hours watching a womens football round robin. They had teams from Kalgoorlie, Kambalda, Albany and Esperance. A couple of the players weren't too bad, but most could not even kick on the run, so the standard was ordinary.
In the afternoon we did a tour of the Esperance wharf. They ship out Nickel and Lithium from nearby mines as well as woodchips and grain. The tour was ok, but there was way too much information. The tour guide did not stop talking for 2 hours and by the end of the tour most people were nearly asleep.
We drove about 40 klms to Cape Le Grand National Park. (Park number 13), again magnificent beaches. Saw dolphins at one of the beaches. Lucky Beach was beautiful with white sand and when the sun peeked through the clouds you really needed your sunnies. Warren was able to drive onto the beach for several klms. Lucky Beach is famous for the Kangaroos which come down onto the beach. We did see 2 roos just off the beach, but as soon as people spotted them they crowded around them which prevented the roos from coming onto the beach. The roos seemed pretty content to just munch on the grass though.
On the Sunday Warren decided to head down to Woolworths to do a bit of re-stock, only to find it closed. This whole place seems to shut down on Sunday.
The weather has certainly been cooler and each day we seemed to get the occassional shower. From here we head north to Kalgoorlie and then we cross the nullabor, so we should be back into the warmer weather.
