Katherine Gorge 11/8/15
Sad to leave our friends in Jabiru but great memories! Arrived at the gorge after lunch and found a good campsite backing onto the NP for the next three nights. Checked out the general surrounds in the afternoon and planned the following two days. An eight Km return hike to Pat's lookout was a good workout. The view over part of the gorge was worth the 1.75hr effort ( worked off some of Lou's home baking). The gorge is a very popular destination with both local and international tourists since the sealed roads offer easy driving. We managed to reserve a double canoe the following day for a half day trip along the gorge which was where all the fun started. We did have a slight head wind at times, Barb paddling away from the rocks and mangroves, Steve trying to hug the banks to escape the wind!! Finally reached the end of the first gorge and decided to just swim at the second gorge- refreshing to say the least and looking forward to wind assistance on our return. It was a bit of fun just drifting and trying to be aware of the oar position behind me when they became necessary!!I felt the wind pass close to my head on several occasions!!
