Buley Rockhole Litchfield NP 4/8/15
Only a few hours drive this morning and once we crossed the bridge North out of Katherine we were soon into magnetic termite mound country. Most standing to two metres in height, quite fascinating and look spectacular in large groups amongst mini palms and pandanus. We have spent time in the park several years ago on a day trip with good friends Lou and Chris, so this was an opportunity to camp and explore the other sights and revisit the old ones. Buley Rockhole is very popular offering walks along the creek and dotted with many plunge pools. An easy 1.4 km walk follows the creek to Florence Falls offering a spectacular view of the falls from the platform, then 135 steps to the bottom of the falls to the pool. It's a good climb on the way back up. Some 4 WDriving took us through a variety of rocky and sandy terrain , once a sandstone escarpment to the Lost City. Using some imagination the remains did resemble ancient ruins. We continued on to view Tolmer Falls, Wangi Falls followed by The Cascades all offering beautiful clear plunge pools as the streams are spring fed year round in the park.
