Left Berlin and headed for Dresden. Only a 2 hour drive thanks to those magnificent German autobahns, sitting on 130km/hr it goes very fast ( although not as fast as some cars). Found our lodgings, great little pension in a lovely area. Caught tram into town and had a good look around after finding a map. Seems like a really nice little city. The old town has been reconstructed as most of Dresden was flattened during WW11 but it looks great and has a nice feel about it, certainly nowhere near as busy as Berlin. Caught tram back home and had a little rest before heading out again. Found a Brauhaus just around the corner that was recommended by the owner of the pension. Fantastic place on the river with glorious views of the city, and obviously being a Brauhaus all beer is brewed on the premises. Had quite a few of the local brew ( very nice) and shared a table with a couple of young German guys who turned out to be very interesting to talk to. They are studying here in Dresden so gave us a few tips about the local area. Conversation turned to changes in Germany over the last 20 years and one said how his parents were quite happy under DDR but his girlfriends parents weren't. I guess they would be our age and that was all they knew anyway. They were also saying how there is still a bit of divide between east and west with the west still thinking they are sending too much money to the old east of the country. We still have trouble fathoming how on earth such a big country was reunified after so long. The logistics must have been mammoth but I guess a lot of work was done behind the scenes before the actual reunification happened.

Aduku I definitely like the name Dresden; and Pearl, while I noalmlry don't like the name, actually fits very well with Dresden. The name flows very nicely; I like it quite a bit.Add-on:MysticKoolaid below does bring up a good point. I don't think it will be all that bad; most kids don't know about the situation during WW2. But if you look up Dresden Fire Bombing, you might find that you do not like the name after all.Still, I don't think that many people will make the connection. And even if they do, if you've explained to your daughter the reason why you named her that (just fond of the city as it is currently), she should be able to explain to others why you went with that name and it should be fine.
