…3 months later and I have been back in Cairns for over 2 months. When I left Nebo I went to Sydney to meet up with old friends from Innisfail and travels prior to that. It was really exciting to see friends from Brisbane, Melbourne, Innisfail and Sydney. Myself and my friend Rachel stayed in a share house which I found luckily last minute before I got to Sydney. I had a bit of a problem getting from Mackay to Sydney in one go. My flight from Brisbane to Sydney got cancelled because of bad thunderstorms so I never made it Sydney when originally planned. I then decided it wasn't meant to be, as originally I had no accommodation set up and I was heading to Sydney (one of the most expensive places in Australia) with absolutely no plan.
Luckily I have an awesome friend (Lana) in Brisbane who let me stay with her for a week whilst I figured out what I wanted to do! After debating every possible idea, I found a place to stay in Sydney and I got a flight the next day. I arrived in Sydney on I think the 22nd or 23rd December ( I can't remember exactly) and went straight to our share house in Surry Hills. It was a gorgeous house, so pretty and Christmassy. The other people staying there were also really nice and easy to get along with. I considered staying there longer but the owners were not so keen, in fact, they were very rude.
During my time in Sydney I met up with all my friends, attempted to get a job and sort my life out. I didn't end up finding work and I wasn't about to hang around in Sydney like I did the year before and waste my money. This time I didn't have the funds to just hang about. So I took control of the situation and decided to go back to Cairns. The cheapest and warmest place in Oz. I had also found a work for accommodation job online so I knew as soon as I got there I wouldn't be paying a penny. It was a pretty sweet set up.
I arrived in Cairns on 8th January 2013 and got set up in my new room (with no bunk beds J ) and lovely roommates. My accommodation job was a receptionist position at the hostel. I was excited about this because it's a useful skill to have and its way more exciting than cleaning!
I have met some awesome people here in Cairns again and I love this hostel. Its friendly, we have our own little family here. As times moved on though, a lot of people started to leave and begin their travels. I am one of the only people still left from the 'original family'. I am still enjoying it here.
I had a couple of jobs as well; I worked at the Novotel, part of the accor hotel group so I was really excited about that and other opportunities it could bring but the hours were terrible. I was only getting 9 hours a week and it wasn't worth it in my eyes to go to work for 2 hours then be sent home again. So I looked for another job and found an agency which recruited people for hospitality work. I did a couple of jobs with them until I realised they were charging me left right and centre for silly expenses so I left that job too.
I have done some other trips whilst being here including the crocodile park which was pretty cool. I've always wanted to see a croc up close!! And I've visited the Crystal Cascade waterfalls which I never saw when I was originally here and heading up to Kuranda this weekend for a day trip to get out of Cairns for a bit.
I am now getting restless and want to go elsewhere. I want to travel the rest of Australia that I haven't seen yet but money is a bit of an issue. It may be the case that I come back to Australia in the future when I have the funds to continue my adventures. For now, I need another job, possibly in a new place and then I'll see from there. The management at the hostel here has all changed around now, we had to move rooms which none of us were too happy about and there are a lot of changes being made here. I think it's time to move on soon, probably towards the end of March/beginning of April, after my 24th birthday.
