Sunday 20th November

Today I finally checked out of the luxury hotel and moved into a hostel. It's quite nice actually and it's clean which is a good thing! I booked myself into a girls dorm because sharing with guys is usually messy and smelly!

I went and 'played' volleyball today with a group from the hostel. I say 'played' but can I really play volleyball, I think not. More like, I stood, tried to hit the ball and failed! I even got in the way of one shot when a ball hit my eye at full speed! That was a complete shock - why is it I always end up with injuries or accidents when I am away?! (Debbie Phillips if you're reading this, reminds me of Israel and that bus, it was pretty much the same sort of pain, although slightly worse from the Israeli bus!)

Tonight, I went out for dinner with a girl from my room and then again, I had an early night. I need to get out of this pattern soon though and start living!

Monday 21st November

First day, completely alone in Cairns; it was a good but strange day, it definitely takes a bit of getting used to. In the morning I did a bit of research on the internet trying to look into the next stage of my travels and then I went to the shopping centre with my roommate. Bought a new pair of sunglasses as my old ones were unfortunately crushed in the volleyball incident!! (Sorry dad, there goes our sunglasses straight in the bin, luckily they were only 5 euros!!)

We also spent the afternoon at the lagoon (which is a huge public pool along the esplanade, google it if you're THAT interested - Cairns Lagoon!!) Very nice and very hot, just the way I like it J and in the evening we went to see the new Twilight movie, although paid about $17 to watch one movie, what a rip off but worth every penny!
