Beautiful clear blue skies, sunny and warm. We have been blessed with awesome weather! Leisurely breakfast and then headed to city centre for a look around Christchurch. Still many earthquakes damaged buildings visible and street closures in many areas of the city. Stopped to see the "Restart Mall", a city block that has been completely destroyed and the rubble removed. The stores, shops, banks and businesses are in shipping containers. Really amazing to see and very busy! One street we walked on had a whole block of condemned buildings with a store in the middle completely intact. Found 2 more geocaches while we were exploring the city. Christchurch is a bustling city that is rebuilding the downton core. Many of the churches were damaged, we thi nk maybe because they are brick. Now on the road to Kaikoura. Stopped for picnic lunch at Waiau River rest stop. Not much traffic so made good time today. Checked into Peketo Beach Holiday Park located right on the ocean. Headed into town to hardware store for screws and glue- needed to make repairs on a curtain that kept falling down. Sarah and Patty repaired while the boys cooked-good division of labour! On the way back to the campsite we grabbed 2 more geocaches- one on a remote beach with Maori caves and the other on a trail. Had BBQ blue cod for supper and it was delicious-thanks Wayne!! While we were eating, the moon rose over the water-it was spectacular! Had never seen anything quite like it, crimson red. The waves crashing added to the perfect night. Our campsite was the nicest so far, right on the beach!
