Up at 6 am, again, to catch shuttle to Abel Tasmen Park. Arrived at Kaiteriteri to catch our catamaran to Onetahuti beach (Tonga Bay). Spectacular turquoise waters on the way up the coastline. We sailed past the famous Split Apple Rock and stopped at Pinnacle Island to see New Zealand fur seals. The colony was females with pups about 4 months old. They very curious and would swim right up to the boat. The catamaran dropped us off at the beach and we hiked 5.4 kms to Bark Bay through a narrow jungle track up many hills. We stopped and had a picnic lunch on the beach and then kayaked for 3 hours. . We paddled up Falls River estuary which is only accessible during high tide before heading to Frenchman's Lagoon. We then paddled to Pinnacle Island to view the seals up close and then to the next cove for our pickup at Anchorage Bay. The weather was sunny and warm-Steve even had a swim in the beautiful Tasman Sea! We learned about Abel Tasman and the exploits of Captain Cook and the local Maori tribes. Another great day and an early night!!
