Well folks, Denis and Steinbeck are here now and things are already a lot more exciting. We've had a really good night out (photo's to follow) and today we went skydiving.
If you haven't done it, do it. It's amazing. I was sat on the floor right next to the door, which was just a flimsy perspex sheet. Kept thinking I would fall out! I thought we were really high up at one point, but when I asked, we were only 4,000ft above ground and we still had another 14,000ft to go.
I was first to jump out. It was really wierd dangling out the plane while the tandem master was still held on to the plane. Then all of a sudden, we were accelerating towards earth. I couldn't believe how fast we went. Turns out we hit about 160mph! It's really hard to breath when you're going that fast, but you get over it (you have to!).
When the parachute finally goes up (after a whole minute of free falling) it really does feel like I thought it would. You would swear you were actually going up, but it's just the huge decelleration making you think that. I was allowed to steer the chute for a while. We spun round so quickly and so many times at one point that I thought I would boak. It's pretty hairy when you come in to land. You finally get an idea of how fast you're going when you are fetting closer to ground. Thank god we had a good landing, huh? We even managed to kick over some kids sandcastle and land on the giant picture of the bum I drew on the beach!
Merle tells me she screamed a lot during her dive. She seemed very nervous before hand. She did very well. They saw a turtle from above and saw the Reef too. As I landed first, I heard her screaming when they came to land. It was funny!
We spent the rest of the day on the beach watching all the other groups do their dives. It's really cool to see a plane 14,000ft above you then see little white dots dropping out and then eventually opening up the parachute.
We bought DVD's of the dive, so we may be sending them home for people to view at some point.
Look out for more blogs in the next few days when we're going white water rafting on the tully, and bungy jumping too.
