Got up and checked ou tof base early this morning to go and catch our boat to the Whitsundays, and even at 8am it was 27 degrees! Crazy! Got to our boat (SISKA) and met our crew:- Skipper- Steve, Deck Hand- Pete, and Hostess- Rachael.
there are 23 passengers in total, and a really nice group of people, i became quite good friends with an Irish girl called Zara, and an english girl called Eve, we had such a laugh watching eachother waddle up and down the deck like penguins, trying to get our sea legs haha.
the first day we sailed straight to Whitehaven beach, for which i can only describe as PARADISE. the views from the lookout were no joke, phenomenal! words really cannot describe it, so i hope that my pictures can wen i upload them, the sand on the beach was pure white, 97% silica, some of the purest sand in the world! you can wash your teeth, hair, jewellary with it, its crazy!
you have to be so careful though because its such fine sand if it gets into your camera, thats it, game over, but mine survived after being hidden in a zip up sandwich bag lol. the water was crystal clear and so warm! it realy was paradise, like nothing i have ever seen before! we saw turtles, rays, lemon sharks. we were dropped off and left on the beach for 2 hours to please ourselves, most of us just stood there trying to take it all in though!
got back to the boat late afternoon and had some dinner (all the food on this trip was amazing!!) then we sailed to a quiet bay to anchor down for the night. we were all sat on deck and a dolphin appeared at the side of the boat! it was jumping around and following the torch light! brilliant! met another english guy called Rich too who jonny spoke to quite alot, and i found it quite funny that they kept sneaking all the german guys beers out the coolbox lol
we were going to sleep on the deck and watch the stars, (which by the way in this coountry, are amazing! you can see every single one!) however the weather had other ideas and as it started to rain we all retreated downstairs into the cabin. the beds were tiny and we were sharing the worlds smallest double bed, which had another double bed above it with only a foot headroom, so bloody good job no one made me jump or id have ended up with concussion! lol
however the beds were suprisingly comfy! the next morning we sailed to our first snorkelling spot (i didnt snorkel-long story)
but to be honest the depth compared to port douglas left me a little outside my comfort zone anyway so i was quite happy to watch. Rich also didnt snorkel as he didnt like the sea so Pete the deck hand took me and him out in the dinghy to feed the fish, and to be honest we saw more fish than some of the snorkellers did! haha. even 2 sea turtles!
after a while we then sailed to another snorkel spotwhere there is just a random strip of beach in the middle of the ocean! it really is a ridiculously surreal and cool place to be!
when we got back onto dry land, our greyhound bus wasnt until 11.30pm so we met all our sailing buddies in the Down Under Bar for some food and drinks (we got free beer! lol) Racheal the hostess turned up to and got absolutely wasted! lol even though she was working at 6am the next day! ouch! lol By the end of the night there was me jonny and her, and our German friend Spethanie who we met on the greyhound. we danced on tables and sang, and i even joined in some of the bar games but lost out on winning a bungy to some cheating aussie girl who insted of downing her pint, poured it on the floor, which is apparently fair... fricking cheater lol. not that im bitter or anything lol
Hopped on our bus after saying our goodbyes, a nice 13 hour bus ride to Hervey Bay ensues...great..
