The last of the temples yesterday - Roluos a group of 3 main temples, Bakong, Preah Ko and Lolei. These were very old and so not as well preserved as some others we have seen (some good photos though). At Lolei, there was a working Buddhist monastery and school on site and I was stopped by the teacher who wanted to practise his english with me. He explained that he hadn't been to university as (unlike the UK) it was very expensive and only the rich can afford it. I put him straight on that one! Our poor tuk-tuk driver had a blow out on the way back and tore a hole in his leg - must have been the weight of his fat passengers putting a strain on the tyres. We are now in Sihanoukville after a bone shaking, freezing cold, roller-coaster of an 8 hour overnight bus journey. The air con was working too effectively so that the passengers were freezing and despite several complaints the best they could do was turn it off for 10 minutes then turn it back on again, which meant alternate 10 minute snoozes with the smell of sweaty backpackers feet and 10 minutes of bone-chilling blasts. We arrived at 4:30am two hours before scheduled which meant that our hotel was not yet open and the tuk-tuk drivers at the bus station were charging premium rates. Our driver did the usual scam of telling us that our hotel was full and that he would take us to 'his' preferred place. We waved him away and sat in a 24hour cafe round the corner - Sihanoukville is just winding down then. Lots of drunks middle class kids in their 'gap' year. Blogging may be quite sporadic over the next few days as we are kicking back and enjoying the laid-back hippy vibe of Sihanoukville. You can get a 'happy' pizza here (basically loaded with ganja) and a 'happy end' massage, but we won't go into what that means....we won't be trying either!
