We just got back from a full day trip to 2 Bavarian castles... King Ludwig the 2nd´s palace nestled in the Alpine forest in upper Bavaria, and his crown jewel, the Neuschwanstein castle high atop the mountains! We traveled through idyllic countryside right out of the pages of medieval times and fairytales.
Ludwigs first palace was meant to be a mini Versailles, and was a celebration of French Absolutism in the classic Baroque and Rococo style of French nobility in previous centuries. We marveled at the setting of this place, absolutely spectacular views and fresh mountain air!
Next, we climbed the side of the mountain to the castle of Ludwigs magical imagination... Neuschwanstein! The Disney castle was modeled after i´t`s classic features, but in reality... it was modeled after the imaginary dreamworld that inspired Wagners operas.
The castle was absolutely breathtaking (and not just the walk up the steep hill to reach it!)
We had an amazing day of exploration, and falling completely in jaw-slacking awe of the German countryside of Bavaria!
We have now spent our 3 days in Munich and have been very pleasantly spending time strolling the uber pedestrian Medieval city that was rebuilt to perfection after being almost entirely demolished in WW2.
And in case we hadnt had our fill in Vienna, we have also found some time to do a little bit more shopping. Another pair of shoes to fit into the already stuffed suitcase! We have also taken somewhere in the area of 850 pictures, and quite easily! We tried to show some restraint today but Ludwigs castle was a stunner!
Also, look up the town of Oberamaggau... because that is where I have decided to live out the rest of my days. We both just completely adored this trip! Pictures to come once we have a bit more internet time.
Next stop...biggest city in Germany, Berlin!
