When we arrived in Arequipa my cold was worse so stayed at the hotel for dinner :-(
We left the next morning on a bus to Colca Canyon. I tried to nap on the way but our local guide kept chatting and pointing out bloody llamas!!! They're everywhere here & it's like pointing out sheep in New Zealand!
The tour had a couple of stops for us to take photos, and all stops had ladies present selling local handicrafts ... Even if it was in the middle of nowhere!
We stopped in Chivay to look at the local market, then onto our quaint hotel overlooking the valley, where we had a yummy llama buffet lunch.
After lunch we went for a walk through the beautiful hillside where we saw pre inks ruins, then out to a nearby thermal springs where we had a nice relax for a few hours, and a cocktail or two ...
Back to the hotel for a lovely dinner and after shared a nice bottle of wine with one of the girls by the fire.
The next day we headed out to see the canyon and watched the condors gliding on the air streams ... We were very lucky to see about 10 of them and was an amazing site!
Afterwards we headed back to Arequipa.
We tried to go to the Monastrey but it was shut due to it being Easter Thursday.
We went to the museum that held the
Juanita mummy. She was a pre inka sacrifice and found frozen at the top of a nearby volcano ... She wasnt on display but had another less well preserved girl on display (they've got about 5 of them). It was a very professionally run museum and the mummies are kept frozen in a state of the art glass refrigerated & humidified case.
I found Cusco Coffee which had the same font branding as Statbucks, so headed into have my first soy chai for ages! You don't want to know how excited I got about this!
We went to see the cathedral during the Easter Thursday mass ... First time I think Ive entered a church at Raster EVER!
We found vendors selling Easter eggs on the street and one of the girls bought me one as had commented (ok maybe sooked a little) how I was sad to have my first Easter without a visit from the Red Tulip elegant rabbit! They were no Red Tulip but still hit the spot!
Went back to hotel and waited round for the time to catch our transfer to the overnight bus ... It was already Good Friday at home so rang my dad and Step mum to say hi, then rang my mum to get her to call me later when she was at my brothers place for lunch ... They did ring but unfortunately phone kept cutting out so spoke to My brother for less then a minute :-(
Am starting to really miss home!!!
As I'm finishing off this blog I'm on the night bus headed to Nasca!
Im very excited to say they have Wifi on board which sadly has only worked intemittently for me :-(
Its one of the better buses Ive been on ... They have good food - chicken rice & veggies served with an Inca Cola (looks like creaming soda & tastes similar but with caeffine) and a meringue tart for desert ...
Funniest of all is they have a Bee Gees album playing (it's hilarious the old hits you here playing here! Bus today they were playing that Moscow song from the 1980 olympics, followed by Sabrina - Summertime Love!).
The middle aged leather jacket wearing Peruvianan man beside me is really enjoying it ... He's mumbling away the lyrics (not in time) to the music!
Thank god I remembered the sleeping tablets and ear plugs!
Just need to elbow wrestle him for the armrest and hopefully blissful peace shall arrive shortly .... They video'd us all shortly after we boarded so feel a bit safer about waking up and still having my valuables on me ... Not so safe about waking up and having a middle aged Peruvian mans arm around me!!!
