Shaun on the Road
Hey everyone. I have just jumped again. I am now in sunny Spain (they lie, it isn't always sunny here, at least not today). I had a great time in Israel. Like I said in my postcard, I did go to Ceaserea, but I had one heck of a time getting there. I waited at the bus station for over 2 hours for my bus. I got fed up, left the bus station to grab something to eat, and just as I left (literally 1 minute) I saw my bus drive by. I ran and caught up to it and knocked on the door, but the driver wouldn't let me in. This could have something to do with the suicide bombing that had just happend in Jerusalem that day. So, I waited another hour and finally got to Ceaserea. It was worth the wait. An ancient city right on the coast. A lot to see and discover. My dream is to take 200 people there and have a massive game of laser tag or paint ball. It would be a great venue (I don't think the authorities would approve of a paintball match in the middle of a 2000 year old city, but whatever).
Leaving Tel Aviv was also much more difficult than I had expected. It took me over an hour to get through security and checked in to my flight. First off, I got pulled aside and questioned for about 15 minutes. Questions about EVERYTHING. Why did I come to Israel. Where did I go. Where did I come from. Where am I going. Can you show me on your map where you stayed. What about the museum that you went to. Did you meet anyone who you will keep in touch with here. Can I see your bag. May I look through your journal. Do you know anyone in Israel. Where does he live. What is his phone number. How did you meet him. This went on and on. I almost laughed more than once because the questions just kept on coming. I found it funny. When that was done, I had both my check bag and my hand bag searched, and I mean everything. They took apart my tent and searched through the poles. They even took my shampoo and packaged it seperately for the flight (who knows why). This was followed by a full metal detector scan. They searched my shoes and ran a metal detector wand over me for over a minute searching for who knows what. I was then escorted to the counter to check in and then escorted to the regular security check that you would have at any normal airport. I had a good laugh. Good thing I wasn't late for my plane.
I got into Barcelona last night and walked around looking for my hostel, which I did eventally find. I'm going to just walk around and see some sights today and tomorrow before heading out, I think to Italy with a stop in the south of France.
Take care all and keep the e mails and messages coming. I do read them and do my best to respond to both, but you are better off going with e mail if you really want a personal response. Talk to you soon.
