Shaun on the Road
I just realized a few days ago that this year is a leap year, which means that I have one more day on my trip that I originally expected (but big deal anyway). I also just realized that European keyboards switch up the z and the y on their kezboards.
But anyway, I left Barcelona a few days ago and took my first train ever. I was actually four trains because I had to change 3 times. This was made all the more interesting because I left at 7 at night and arrived at 11am. I had my changes at night with signs in German and French. Fortuantly I didn't miss any of my connections and I arrived in Zurich on time. I met my friend Corrine at the train station and she has been taking me around the city. I met Corrine in Ecuador while in Spanish school, so it is really nice to have a place to stay at and someone to guide me around, not to mention have a place to do my laundry and cook for myself for a change.
I went to see some really cool churches and great Swiss architecture. I really liked it. I also went for a great Swiss meal at her mom's place. And of course they gave me a Swiss Army Knife to replace my stolen one, and enough chocolate to turn my blood brown. Great hospitality, even if we couldn't communicate properly (a running theme in mz life, it seems).
Traveling on the train was everything I was expecting. It had just snowed and it was really cool seeing all the fresh snow on these little Swiss houses with the mountains in the background. So stereotypical.
Tomorrow I am off to Italy for a week and a bit before heading to Austria. I am looking forward to Rome, especially. One of the World's great cities by all acounts. I'll let you know what I'm up to when I get there.
