Shaun on the Road
Hey all. I have officially made the big jump, and it is quite different here in Jerusalem than it was in Sao Paulo. The city is nice, and no I havn't seen any suicide bombers...at least that I know of. The thing is you are searched before you enter ANY public building. I went through a metal detector before going into a mall. That was a first.
The city is a bit cooler than I expected it to be, and it is forecast to snow on Saturday, but we'll see. I don't remember reading in the Bible that Jesus ever had to walk around in the snow, but I guess I'll have to read the gospels again to make sure about that.
Other than that, things are going well. I am going to see some more museums and take a tour of the old city by foot. Walk down the Via Dolarosa (road where Jesus walked on before being crucified), go up to the Dome of the Rock (the mosque on the picture), but I don't know if I can go up there. I also am going to walk to Bethlehem from Jerusalem (apparently the mall is further away and I walked back from there in an hour). I am going to stay in the city until early or mid next week before heading out to the Dead Sea and then North to Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee, and to the Golan Heights. Then down the coast to Tel Aviv and out of the country. I think that I'll be gone by the 21st or 22nd, but I'll let you know. I will write another post card before I leave to tell you the highlights. Talk to you then.
