Shaun on the Road
Alright, things just are not as they are supposed to be. Did Jesus ever run into snow? I guess so but you would never think so. Just a bad stereotype. He lived in this country for 33 years (well, I guess he was in Egypt for like a few months when he was 2) but I've only been here for 3 days and already I've seen snow. That's right, it started snowing this afternoon and hasn't stopped yet. There is some accumulation already, and I think it may snow for a while yet.
People do NOT know how to drive in this, either. I was walking down the street when a woman coming towards me honked her horn (I think to warn me) just before ramming into two guard posts. I was not surprised at all because she was going way too fast for the corner she was going around. Luckily she only broke one light, which was surprising because she was moving pretty fast. Must have been a really solid bumper.
Other than this, I have seen some great stuff thus far. I went to a couple of museums and have walked down the Via Dolorosa (way of sorrow) where Chirst supposedly walked to the cross. There are 14 stages of the cross along the way where events supposedly happened (for example, where he told the women not to weep for him, ect.) At the end is a huge church (big shocker, these guys build churches for everything around here) where the supposed site of the cross is, as well as the tomb. I also walked aroung the old city (very confusing but very cool, with a lot to see and about three million shop keepers, all within the city walls. I bought my traditional keepsake, a knife, for about $17 CAD, which I thought was a good price.
Other than that, I am going to stay here in Jerusalem for another 2 days, leaving for the dead sea on Tuesday morning, if everything goes to plan. Liking Jerusalem, but there are some really strange people here. There is also every different style of head covering you can imagaine. I think every religion on earth is represented...except the Mennonites.
Thanks for reading this and take care. I'll send another update (I think) before leaving the country.
