Shaun on the Road
I'm almost ready to leave Israel. My flight is out of here on Monday afternoon to Barcelona, so that will begin my European segment of the trip. But here is what has been going on since I last posted something.
After it snowed in Jerusalem absolutely everything shut down. Obviously this is not a common thing. I went to 11 sights in the city after it snowed and 9 of them were closed. Quite depressing considering I was walking everywhere. The next day was better and I went to see thing like: the garden of Gethsemene (sp?), the garden tomb, the church of the nativity in Bethlehem, Schindler's grave, and the coolest thing of all, Hezikiah's tunnels. It took me 25 min to walk through knee deep water in utter blackness before I got to the end. Luckily I had my trusty head lamp. I am amazed that these guys built this thing 3000 years ago. Quite the experience.
After Jerusalem I went to Masada, the location of the last Jewish standoff in 72 AD, followed by a float in the dead sea. Yes, you actually do float. From there I went to the Sea of Galilee and Nazareth, where Jesus grew up. Nazareth is pretty dirty, but the Sea of Galilee is nice, and I biked around it to see all the sights. Again, a church marks basically every one.
I camped in Galilee one night and had some rain, so I am trying to dry out my tent in the hostel, which is a real pain. Today I walked through Jaffa (where Jonah ended up after being swallowed by the fish) which is right next to Tel Aviv. Tomorrow I am off to Caesarea for the day, and that will conclude my time here. Take care and I'll keep the updates coming.
