Shaun on the Road
Well, we certainly had a whirlwind tour of this nation. In the 14 days that we were here (when I say we I mean I was traveling with my friend Frank) we stayed in 5 different places, never spending more than 3 nights in once place. Here is a brief recap of the trip.
After spending a couple of days in San Jose, visiting my friend John who is in Bible School down here, we made out way up to the beach paradise of Tamarindo. The best part of Tamarindo, low tide. Low tide rocks!! There was so many rocks to explore with little crabs and crustations. We also crossed this little estuary where, apparently, there are often crocodiles. We only found this out latter, though. I just counted and I have all of my toes, so I'm doing all right. The bad part of Tamarindo was the hotel. I gues what can you expect for $7.50 per night? Another clue to a cheap hotel is check out consists of leaving your key in your door and that's it.
Our next stop was Monte Verde, where we went to a place called Sky Trek, which was a company that did zip line (also known as trolley) tours. Your are strapped onto your trolley, so it is all quite safe, which is good because you are about 200 meters off the ground at times.
Our next stop was Montezuma, which is famous, I guess, for it's diarrhea. Don't worry, we kept on the straight and narrow. Although this town had good beaches, the real treat was the triple waterfall. We spent an hour hiking to it and a good four hours enjoying the water, the falls, and the jungle in general.
After Montezuma, we traveled clear accross the country in 12 hours to arrive at our final beach spot in Costa Rica, a town called Cahuita on the Caribean Coast (all other destinations were on the Pacific side). This place was alright, but I liked the other side better. Had kind of a bad run in with a local here trying to rip us off. At the end of the day we offered him the equivalent of 3 cents Canadian for a couple of coconuts. He was none to happy. For more details on this funny story ask myself or Frank. We'll both know what you are talking about if you ask.
Since Cahuita was the last vacation destination, we headed back to San Jose for a day. Frank then Returned to Calgary and I went on to Mexico, where this story continues.
