We left Rotorua in dark grey skies but hopeful that the weather would Improve.
Drove to Taupo where we found a small market. Interesting to look at but nothing to buy. We had parked by the harbour so we left the car and walked into town where we had the best coffee this holiday. The town was very nice with very wide steeets and only single storey buildings gave it a light and airy feel. We had been told to visit the Hukka Falls so as we had missed them on the way in we backtracked a couple of kilometres and found them. They were worth the effort. So much water going through such a narrow space. They claimed it filled 6 Olympic swimming pools in 1 minute. It really was impressive.
Back into Taupo and filled up with petrol, which turned out to be a good move, as there was no more petrol for 130 km.
The drive from Taupo to Napier was stunning. Like we were airborne, the weather had improved and the blue skies had returned and visibility was great. All along the roadside was wild yellow lupins and masses of yellow Broom which made everywhere look really bright.Pulled into a viewpoint not knowing what we were meant to see and found this fabulous waterfall. (See picture)
We are now in Napier which is an Art Deco town. Rebuilt after the earthquake in the the 1930's. Temperature 26degrees. Oh yes I have seen pictures of snow in Sheffield. Well I just put my shorts and sandals on!!!
Looking forward to having a good look around tomorrow.
