Woke up this morning to find a message on my phone from Carolyn, my niece, wanting to know if we were ok? Followed by many more messages asking the same thing. It was only then we found out about the earthquake. Thank you everyone for your messages and yes we are both fine.
We spent the morning at an area next door to our hotel. The Treaty Grounds is an area where the Brits and Maoris agreed to be ruled by Britain. It was a fascinating place and we spent 3 hours there.
We have now returned to Auckland and to the same hotel we stayed in 2 days ago. This time we have an upgrade and we have a suite. WOW it's huge. Feel like royalty.
2 complete rooms plus a massive bathroom and the bed is big enough for 4!!
Looking at the TV news tonight it looks as if our plans will have to change as we were meant to stay in Kaikoura where the quake struck. There is also news that winds of 140km per hour are coming through tonight in that area. In Auckland we are OK.
Interesting to see how our journey will change now.
