Hi guys,
I am so sorry for not updating my blog for the past couple of weeks.
It has been a hectic time for me. First of all, the Ko-Yon games were crazy. I was gone for 16 hours of the day every day of the weekend. We won!!! Something unexpected was the amount of cheering at the games, it was nonstop, during the breaks, before the game, and after. Definitely a fun experience not to mention a great workout. This was one of the most fun weekends here, I will update with more details and pictures soon. Next week is midterm week, so I am studying all the time now. Hopefully next weekend I'll have more time to spare.
I also went to a movie theater. The foreign movies are not dubbed, they just have Korean subtitles so it was nice. We went to a late night movie and it was around $8. I also want to try 4D movies, which are 3D plus the seats move, there are smells, etc.
One new thing I tried was chicken feet. It looked really interesting so I went ahead and ordered them. They were fun to eat, I was given a plastic glove to eat them with and they had a yummy chili sauce. The feet themselves were mostly skin though, not too much substance.
Okay, back to studying! I promise to update soon.
The picture is froma park, they have a lot of really cool parks here and the mountains are also close by-easily accessable by the subway-if you want to go hiking.
Oh an another thing. Some of the things I wish I brought back with me from America include:
- Gum-the gum here loses its flavor in seconds. It is about a dollar a pack.
- Coffee-the coffee here is expensive, about $8 for instant, and it was hard to find an affordable one that was strong enough for me.
- Tea-same problem, it is way more expensive here. I love black tea so I wish I brought a super pack from Trader Joe's or something
- Beef Jerky-I love that stuff and they have seafood jerkey here so it is a good substitute
- Nuts and dried fruit-it is expensive to buy nuts and hard to find dried fruit
- Giant packs of candy-they have plenty of candy and cookies here but it would have been cheaper to buy a family pack from the States
- Crystal light-just a personal preference for it
- Cliff Bars-same reason
- Jello-can't find it here
- cake or brownie mixes-definitely cheaper to make it myself
- If you have large feet or are bigger than the average Asian, I would recommend you buy shoes and clothing in America as it will be much easier for you. Many of the cheaper stores here have a one size fits all approach to their clothing and you cannot try it on.
Food here is more expensive than I thought it would be. Dinner or lunch, just eating out in general is way cheaper than in the States though. You can get a full dinner for about $5, in Korea the dishes come with side dishes so it is a really healthy and filling meal. However, the grocery stores are expensive and do not do the same type of sales that I am used to. Yogurt, fruit, vegetables, candy, are all portioned out into individual or smaller portions, not giant ones so it is less economical to buy. At least this is from my experience, perhaps I should try to venture out and find some larger stores or markets. I did go to homeplus here-a giant supermarket- and namdaemun-an outdoor market. But I'll keep looking and update you if I find something.
