I have been daydreaming about all the things I will get to see in Korea, a whole years worth of memories to make...
It still does not seem completely real that I will be in Korea in about 6 weeks. I suppose I will finally believe when I see it, or when I am sitting on the plane. But in preparation for the trip and to while away some time I have put together a top 5 touristy sights to see during my first few weekends. I have to get the touristy sights out of the way, so that after a couple of months I can go to all the cool and hidden places with the locals. And because some of the spots seem amazing. Here they are in no particular order.
Number 1: Myeongdong. This is a big shopping and tourist district, with lots of brands and fun shops to visit. I have heard Korea has really cool hair products and cheap clothes. I hope it's true, but I think Myeongdong is a very expensive area, so mostly a window shopping place. Did you know there was a Forever 21 in Korea??? I don't think I'll be shopping there, just a surprise.
Number 2: Gyeongbokgung. This is a very famous palace and originally constructed in 1394. I love going to palaces and seeing all of the art and history spanning so many centuries. It is one of the things I love about places abroad.
Number 3: Seoul Tower, which from what I have read seems to be a sort of Willis Tower (formerly known as Sears Tower). Since Seoul's population is 9.778 million, there will be a lot to see!
Number 4: DeMilitarized Zone or DMZ. This is the buffer zone between North and South Korea. A definite must see for me.
Number 5: Bugaksan. I love mountain hikes and this looks like a beautiful place for one.
