Today we went to Fraser Island, known to the aborigines as 'Gari' (meaning paradise) we got to the island via a ferry, we were in a 4x4 so once we docked we headed straight into the middle of the island, on the way we were driving through thick forest, it was a bumpy ride as the entire island is made of sand, whilst driving we saw our first wild Dingo (an Australian wild dog) we first went to Lake McKenzie, this was a lake made totally from rainwater, it was clear blue on a white beach, the water was fresh enough to drink but we didn't try it just in case. We had a swim then had some breakfast. After breakfast a local aborigine named Travis gave us all a welcome song and dance, he stayed with us the whole day so he gave us a lot of info all day about the aboriginie culture. We then drove to the Maheno shipwreck, it's a ship that was hit by a cyclone during world war 2 and was never recovered, it has corroded over the years and the specialists predict it will be completely gone in 12 years. We then headed to Indian Head, this is a cliff that we climbed and it over looked the South Pacific Ocean, apparently you can often see turtles, sharks and stingrays from the top, but we only saw Dolphins (not all that bad) we then had lunch and beers on the beach whilst watching Travis playing the didgeridoo and teaching us about the different types of boomerangs. I (Scott) had a go at making a telephone call the aboriginal way, using a piece of sring and a bit of wood, (if you have watched crocodile Dundee 2 you will know what I mean) we left there then went to the champagne pools for a swim, they were really nice and hidden in a cove, overall it was another brilliant day here in Oz. now back at the hostel. Going to a shark museum tomorrow where they have a frozen great white shark which you can stand inches away from and look straight in its mouth (don't worry mum, it isn't alive) should be good. Kelly's abit worried it will resurrect hahaha :)
