Today we are slightly more efficient and manage to leave the camp around 10h00. Much against everyone's advice - as Valle del Francés would not really be worth visiting if the weather is completely overcast (which it is) - we still decide to hike our way up to the top. Weren't we told that the weather in Patagonia can change drastically in less than half an hour? Yes we were!
We definitely took the right decision as we have a nice and clear view over the valley after the first our of climbing already. A bit more up, we are welcomed by a small snowstorm, but this only makes the scenery more beautiful and once again we are enjoying our 'four seasons in a day' hike;
We descent back to our camping spot where we quickly break up our camp and leave about 20 minutes later towards Campamento los Cuernos. Yet another total distance of about 22 kilometers today. Challenging weather conditions and some nights with hardly any sleep, make that we are feeling extremely tired towards the end of today's trek. The last hour we start to realize how we will feel when we are 80 years old, and we are pushing ourselves up the hills with the speed of a (slow)snail.
17h00 sharp and out of nowhere the camping and some colourful tents suddenly appear to us as an oasis! Thank God for that!
Campamento Cuernos is a paid camping so we are extremely happy with the hot showers and decide to go for a paid meal, yet another wise decision. Drinking a glass of cheap wine, we soon get warm and dozy next to the refugio's stove. Wake up though, it is time to go to our wet and cold tent again and enjoy yet another night of extreme wind and rain...
