Happy Valentines Day...
Today we get to spend one day in Alice Springs before moving on yet again, so Claudia and I took to the streets to do as many things as possible. I had to laugh as Claudia and I were walking through town each exclaiming that we didn't have any Valentines wishes (at that point in the day...later this changed) just as two random guys came walking across the road and said Happy Valentines day, what are the odds of that happening?
We took a walk down to the reptile centre in town as we had heard that you could hold a big python. We got there and we're pleased to see that we got discount on entry and were just in time for the reptile talk/show. The guy was very informative and friendly and introduced us to a Blue Tongued lizard, a Bearded Dragon and an Olive python. Then his phone rang...he said he had to answer it because it was 'the snake phone' someone had discovered a King Brown snake in their kitchen and it had to be removed...oh the joys of living in Australia! Lol.
It was kind of cool to hold each of the lizards but I was seriously bricking it about holding the Python named 'Honey'. I was hoping it meant she was sweet and that was why they called her that. I was the first person to hold her and he wrapped her body around me and told me not to worry unless she starts to 'squeeze' I just thought thanks...ok ok...don't panic lol. She was quite heavy and to be honest every time she got near to my face I couldn't help but think about her suddenly striking and biting me despite the reassurance from the handler that she would be fine. You wouldn't have assumed I was afraid since I spent the entire time laughing but it did take some time for me to calm down. I decided to hand her back when her body was too close to my neck and then took some photos of Claudia holding the snake. I did have to laugh though when Honey went right up to her face, later on she told me that the snake had stuck its tongue in her nose! Ew! Lol.
After the reptile centre we met Jan in town to go for a free didgeridoo lesson at the local arts centre. I will admit now...I am not ever going to be a didgeridoo player, not unless fart noises make a come back in music. Jan took to it like a duck into water though, he played almost instantly which kind of made us hate him a little bit lol. Claudia and I as usual spent some time just laughing about it and commenting on the random noises the tutor was making. Luckily we kept a straight face when he looked over or he wouldn't have been impressed! We met a guy who bought one and came there every afternoon to improve his technique, not bad since he'd been going there only a coupe of days and got the basics down.
I think we finally decided it was beer o'clock later on and the challenge was to get enough beer jugs so that everyone had one for a photo op. It was so hard hiding them underneath the table from the barman who I think was suspicious that we were hoarding the empties. We became like little children again trying to hide them underneath a newspaper or pretending it was a table with a book on top but we got our photo before someone told us we had to leave the outside area and go inside. Now...anyone at home knows I like to dance but I cannot really explain why I thought I could take on a couple of break dancers in the bar and try and 'school' them on how to do it properly...glass in my foot and very sore limbs later I gave up and went to bed not before getting a couple of high fives from the other dudes!
I am holding 'Honey' the Olive Python in this picture.
