This morning was another early start as we hurried to get to Uluru for sunrise. Not as colourful as I would have thought or like the sunset but it was still nice to see the sun coming slowly out of the shadows. We hurriedly ate some breakfast and then drove round to the start of the Uluru climb. It looked rather funny me driving along with a big piece of bread sticking out of my mouth lol.
We hurried...for no reason...when we got there we discovered that the climb was closed due to high winds. I can understand though as it was rather windy on the ground it would be really bloody windy up there. Besides the climb was all on slippery rocks and only had a metal chain guard rail to assist you in walking up to the top. We decided to go and walk the Mala track instead which went round some of the bottom of Uluru. Claudia and I took our time and photographed some of the caves and art work before sitting down on a random bench and taking a few silly photos.
Next we took everyone to see the Olgas. Due to high winds and the temperature rising so much we couldn't do the valley of the winds walk so we just did the walpa gorge walk which takes you down in between the Olgas. It was a nice leisurely walk and we only realised how long we'd been sat there for when the sun came and filled the entire crevice.
This afternoon was another driving afternoon and it ended very differently than we thought it would. We got to a roadhouse to see if it was open to stay overnight and it had closed a long time ago. It was here that the passengers told us they we leaving us at the next road house because we were taking too long on our trip...I couldn't believe it. Just as we were about to throw them out anyway they had booked a greyhound bus at the last service station and were just using us to get to Eldunda. So we took them there and since it was just Claudia and I now we left them there and started the journey south by ourselves. It was only fair, they gave us no notice they were leaving and the rest of the trip is going to cost each of us a little more now. If only we'd waited to find some travellers who were truly happy with the times and locations instead of people who just smiled and nodded then probably complained behind our backs. Lesson seriously learnt be careful who you travel with.
Never mind, we got as far as we could and then camped out for the night just before the South Australia border. Tomorrow sees us driving to Coober Pedy without being rushed by anyone!
