As early start to get to the train station before the crowds in order to get the bus to the Terracotta Army. The queue was quite long when we arrived, and we had a lot of hassle from tour guides telling us we would be waiting for 2 hours to get a bus, but in the end it was less than 20 minutes before we were on our way. Having read up about it, we decided to do the 3 pits in reverse order, and I'm so glad we did. Pit 3 was a pretty good, but when I saw Pit 2 I was a bit "is that it??!". Nothing had prepared us for the sight as you walk into Pit 1 and see literally thousands of life size warriers lined up - it was amazing. And to think that there may be more yet to be excavated. We were hoping to go to the Hot Springs on the way back but unfortunately the bus didn't stop where we were expecting it to, so we went back into Xi'an and into the Muslim Quarter for a look around the very lively street markets. We ended up in a restaurant with very literal English translations such as 'tail of the ox boiled' which did nothing to make the food appealing!
